There were several newspaper articles published locally (Missoula, Montana) about the Russell Elementary students' progress during the year-long challenge. After the kids succeeded in their virtual run across America, Paul Staso kept his promise and ran their route for real - all alone. He did not seek any media attention as he crossed the United States during the summer of 2006. He just let promotional matters unfold as opportunities arose. Paul was not featured in national news media and was not on talk shows. From beginning to end his solo run across America was focused on keeping a promise, and Paul did that.
