RUN!WEEK 39

June 7-11, 2010

MILEAGE THIS WEEK: 5TH GRADE = 141 MILES  /  4TH GRADE = 57½ MILES

TOTAL MILEAGE TO DATE:
5TH GRADE = 2,269 MILES  /  4TH GRADE = 2,276¾ MILES

IT'S OFFICIALLY OVER! BOTH TEAMS COMPLETED THE PARKS RUN CHALLENGE!

After 39 weeks of running and walking, both the 4th grade team and the 5th grade team have conquered the Parks Run Challenge! The 4th graders finished first this week and actually logged 10¾ miles more than the 2,266 miles needed to complete the journey. The 5th graders finished second and logged 3 miles more than the distance required. During the journey, the kids ran through the following U.S. national parks in order: Yellowstone National Park (Montana); Crater Lake National Park (Oregon); Mount Rainier National Park (Washington); Olympic National Park (Washington); North Cascades National Park (Washington); and finally, Glacier National Park (Montana).

This was quite a challenge for both teams. It was a spring filled with lots of rain and clouds and that made running outside difficult at times. However, both teams managed to log enough miles to finish. Congratulations to each and every student who ran and walked throughout the year. Hopefully you learned something about the National Parks of the northwest U.S.A. that you didn't know before, and hopefully you got more fit as a result of all that running and walking!

This web site will stay online as a record of the kids' accomplishment and for other teachers to use as a helpful tool in creating their own virtual trek. Be sure to follow Paul Staso's running adventures at www.pacetrek.com. Have a wonderful summer 4th and 5th graders!
