Paul chose a well-calculated course that provided him with the greatest amount of safety while giving opportunities to restock the support stroller and care for his body as best as possible. Remember, he was alone for the 506-mile, 17-day run. Averaging 30 miles per day required a route that provided him with optimal stopping points from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, across the Mojave Desert, to Badwater Basin, Death Valley, California. Have a closer look at the route:

   Days 1 through 8 (235 miles)  │  Days 9 through 17 (271 miles)  │  Entire Route

You can click here for a map showing the entire route and Paul's daily stopping points!

Paul's weekly mileage was follows: Week 1 203 miles; Week 2 229 miles; Final 3 Days 74 miles. The route involved three states (Arizona, Nevada and California) and included about 120 miles of the historic Route 66. It also included Arizona's Kaibab National Forest and Juniper Mountains; Nevada's Lake Mead National Recreation Area (southern part); and, California's Mojave National Preserve, Avawatz Mountains, Greenwater Mountain Range, and Amargosa Mountain Range. While pushing the 80-pound stroller Paul aimed to maintain a 4 mile-per-hour pace (126 total hours) over varying terrain.
