This
is P.A.C.E. Trek 2011 – Destination: Mojave
Desert. P.A.C.E. is "Promoting Active Children
Everywhere".
School teams
from 9 countries registered to virtually run/walk this challenging route!
Paul Staso
is a Journey Runner who
actually (not virtually!) runs solo across states and countries to promote youth
fitness globally. He has
run alone across the
United
States;
Germany;
Alaska;
Montana
and now the Mojave Desert!
His latest journey began April 14, 2011. Paul
became the first person to run solo and
unsupported across the Mojave Desert – 506 miles from the South Rim of the
Grand Canyon, across the Mojave Desert, to Badwater
Basin, Death Valley (the lowest, hottest and driest location
on the North American continent).
Student teams ran/walked a few minutes daily for 12 days
as Paul was on the road.
Why
did paul choose the Mojave?
Click here to learn why! As with
his other
"P.A.C.E.
Trek"
adventures, thousands of school children from around the
world ran and walked with Paul, logging miles in teams
around school playgrounds, tracks and gymnasiums. Paul
does these mega-distance treks to encourage an active/healthy lifestyle in children,
promote goal setting, and to teach kids about locations
beyond their school boundaries in a fun and challenging
way. So far, he's logged 206 marathons in 184 days doing P.A.C.E.
runs across states and countries, a total of 5,386 miles –
averaging 30 miles per day pushing
a jogging stroller
weighing 80+ pounds, which carries
essential gear.
This web site chronicles his amazing 17-day Mojave
Desert journey during April 2011.
