THE 4th AND 5th GRADERS HAVE FINISHED!
ON
JUNE 9, 2008 THE FORTY-THREE 4TH GRADERS FINISHED THE ROUTE 66 CHALLENGE
FIRST! THEY VIRTUALLY RAN AND WALKED 2,278 MILES FROM
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS TO LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA WITHIN THE
9-MONTH SCHOOL YEAR. THE 5TH GRADERS FINISHED THE TREK ON JUNE 10, 2008.
CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH CLASSES!

What a great effort the kids put in this year! The 4th and
5th graders at Russell Elementary are awesome! All combined,
these 85 kids walked and ran 4,556 miles during the school
year. After you view the following couple of pictures,
scroll down to read comments from some of the participating
students!

Okay, the above photo was their serious side. Now take a
look at their crazy side...

We asked the kids to tell us what they learned during the
Route 66 challenge. Here are some of the responses:
"I learned that if you run a lot you get used to it."

"I learned that running can give you a longer life."

"To never give up and always try your best."

"Teamwork is really, really important."

"Running and walking far takes a lot of strength and
courage."

"I learned that it is fun to run and it is healthy too!"

"I learned that it is hard, but you still have to keep
trying."

"You should always try your best and work as a team."

"I learned to stay fit and healthy."

"I’ve learned that anything is possible."

"If you want something bad enough you can do it. You just
have to work for it."

"If you want to do something, you can do it."

"If you work hard, you can get anywhere."

"I learned so many things about all the states. I like
running more now."

"We didn’t run because we had to, but because we wanted to."

"I learned that if you want to do something, stick to it. I
learned to keep fit."

"You can do things you thought you couldn’t."

"I learned that anything you believe in you can do."

"I learned that if you persevere then you can get through
anything."

"I have learned to be prepared and to give it your best."

"I have learned that you don’t have to be fast to do this."

"The most important thing I learned is how to bring out the
best of myself while having fun. Thank You!!!"
We'll do another virtual trek challenge during the 2009-2010
school year at Russell Elementary in Missoula, Montana.
Until then... keep running and walking toward better health
and fitness!
