Learn Something Today About Germany...

Leiwen is one of the most significant wine growing municipalities on the Moselle river. The village is located on the banks of the Moselle and is situated in the middle of vast grapevines. The village produces wine made from the Riesling grape variety, and holds a wine festival every year – which is a big draw for tourists. Along the way today, the route passed through Speicher, a town of 3,300 people. There are many small businesses in Speicher. The Ital. Eis Cafe serves Italian ice cream, and the City Grill has kebabs (otherwise known as gyros) and Pizza. There are also a few other small grocery stores. PLEWA is a pottery factory in the eastern area of Speicher. It specializes in gray and blue pottery that has been made in this area for nearly 2,000 years.

Learn Something Today About Health & Fitness...

We've all heard reports that running is bad for your knees. However, we never read headlines announcing "Running is good for your knees!". Three separate studies have show that running does not cause joint damage. Here are the synopsis of the studies from the past few years:

A 2008 Stanford University 20-year study of 962 runners and non-runners concluded that the non-runners experienced two times as much joint damage due to inactivity.
In 2007, the Danube Hospital reported that running has a "protective value" on knee joints after a 10-year study of elite marathoners in Austria.
The Medical University of Vienna concluded in 2006 that marathon running does NOT damage "cartilage, ligaments, or bone marrow of the knee in well-trained runners."

Okay, so lace up your running shoes and get out the door today for a run!

Did You Know?

A nutritious diet is important in the prevention and cure of various diseases. Since no single food group can nourish the body with all the vital ingredients it requires, it is important that we eat a variety of healthy foods to get the nutrition our body needs. There are five main food groups: Fruits; Vegetables; Cereals and Pulses; Dairy; and, Poultry, Fish and Meat products. A healthy balanced diet of these five food groups ensures essential vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber. The food group serving size will depend upon various factors like age, activity level, body size and gender. It is also important for a person to eat a variety of foods from within and across the food groups. Some foods from within a food group provide more nutrients than others. ______________________________________________________________________________
