Something Today About Germany...
The Rhine River is one of the longest and most
important rivers in Europe, at 1,320 kilometers (820 miles). It is
indeed the longest river in Germany. Many German manufacturing and
industrial cities are located along the Rhine, and the river is
important for shipping and transportation. The Rhine River's name comes
from the Celtic word "renos", meaning raging flow. Because of the
multi countries and languages, the river has four names. They are:
Rhein, Germany; Rhine, France; and Rijn, Netherlands;
Rhenus, ancient. The castles are an unmistakable feature of the
Rhine landscape. Along the Rhine there are more castles than in any
other river valley in the world. Many are ruins, but some have been
restored as hotels and are open for tours.

Something Today About Health & Fitness...
It has been claimed that physical education
in high schools is flawed, meaning that students do not benefit from the
exercise and experience in sport that they require to stay fit. Recently
released figures show that 70% of 19-year-olds, having left high school,
do no regular exercise and fail to participate in sports.
Could the supposed "flawed" P.E. system in U.S. high schools be
hindering military recruitment in the United States? According to a
recently released report, about 75% of the America's 17- to 24-year-olds
are ineligible for military service largely because they are lacking
in education, are overweight, and have physical ailments that make them unfit for
the armed forces. In fact, about one-third of all potential recruits can't
join because they're simply too overweight and out of shape. As an
example, to pass an Army
physical fitness test an 18-year-old male must do 42 push-ups in two
minutes, 53 sit-ups in two minutes and run two miles in 15 minutes 54
seconds. More and more potential recruits simply cannot pass the test.
Physical education curriculums in high schools are being examined
in many states for possible revision.

Did
You Know?
Okay, time for some little known facts:
It takes 17 muscles
to smile and 43 to frown (smile and save energy!). A human being
loses an average of 40 to 100 strands of hair a day. An average human
scalp has 100,000 hairs. A cough releases an explosive charge of air
that moves at speeds up to 60 miles per hour. A sneeze can exceed the
speed of 100 miles per hour. Every person has a unique tongue print.
According to German researchers, the risk of heart attack is higher on
Monday than any other day of the week. An average human drinks about
16,000 gallons of water in a lifetime. Both a fingernail and a toenail take
about 6 months to grow from base to tip. However, fingernails grow
slightly faster than
toenails. Finally, the average human body contains enough: iron to make
a 3 inch nail; sulfur to kill all fleas on an average dog; carbon to
make 900 pencils; potassium to fire a toy cannon; fat to make 7 bars of
soap; phosphorous to make 2,200 match heads; and, water to fill a
ten-gallon tank. ______________________________________________________________________________
