Something Today About Germany...
There are
about 276,000 residents of Wiesbaden, plus approximately 10,000 United
States citizens (mostly associated with the American military).
Wiesbaden, together with the cities of Frankfurt am Main and Mainz, is
part of the Frankfurt Rhine Main Region, a metropolitan area with a
combined population of about 5.8 million people. Wiesbaden is one of the
oldest spa towns in Europe. Its name literally means "meadow baths". At
one time, Wiesbaden boasted 27 hot springs. Fifteen of the springs are
still flowing today. Wiesbaden is located on the right (northern) bank
of the Rhine River. In 1648, at the end of the devastating 30 years war,
chronicles tell that Wiesbaden had barely 40 residents left. During
World War II, Wiesbaden was largely spared by allied bombing raids. But
between August 1940 and March 1945, Wiesbaden was attacked by allied
bombers on 66 days. In the attacks, about 18% of the city's homes were
destroyed and approximately 1,700 people lost their lives. Wiesbaden was
captured by U.S. Army forces on March 28, 1945. American armed forces
have been present in Wiesbaden since World War II. Did you know that
American tennis star, John McEnroe, was born on a U.S. military base at
Wiesbaden? Also, Priscilla Presley (Beaulieu at the time) lived
in Wiesbaden with her parents (her father was an Air Force Officer
stationed in Wiesbaden). It was here that she met Elvis Presley – she
was 14 years old at the time, Elvis was 24.

Something Today About Health & Fitness...
Runners have been claiming it for years, and
now it has been proven: running makes you feel happy. Henning Boecker of
the University of Bonn, Germany, looked at the brains of 10 runners with
a PET-scan. He did this just before they started running and after they
had finished their 2 hour training. The researchers discovered that the
brains of the runners had high levels of endorphins in them.
Furthermore, the endorphins were located in the places of the brain that
regulate emotions. So did the runners feel a lot happier? Of course they
did. And the higher the levels of endorphins in the brain, the happier
they said they felt.
Be happy... go for a run today!

Did
You Know?
Vitamins are chemicals found
in foods that are vital for life. There are 13 major vitamins: A, C, D,
E, K, and 8 varieties of B. Each has a range of tasks in the body.
Vitamin C (in citrus fruit) helps fight infection and keeps gums and
teeth healthy. Vitamin A (found in carrots, green vegetables, and milk)
helps keep skin and bones healthy. Essential minerals for the body
include small amounts of salt, calcium for bones, iron for red blood
cells, and tiny traces of minerals such as iodine. ______________________________________________________________________________
