It's
Paul's hope that the "20/10 Challenge" will be something
that all kids and adults can do to improve their own
fitness level during the three weeks he is on the road in Germany. This is
completely FREE and is actually very easy to do!
Essentially, each day between March 8 and March 30, 2010
you'll do either 20 minutes of running and 10 minutes of
walking, OR... 10 minutes of running and 20 minutes
of walking. You choose! You can do this individually, with a
partner, or as a group. The idea is forward movement... just
as Paul will be doing daily through Germany. However, please
know that the mileage you acquire during the 20/10 Challenge
will not be reported on the Internet and will not contribute to the
mileage required to make Paul keep his
2 Million Mile Promise
to P.A.C.E. Trek school teams.
How To Do The 20/10 Challenge In 2010...
Decide if you plan to do this alone of with other people. If
you're a child it
is strongly recommended that you have
someone else with
you for safety.

Choose a safe route that you can
run and
walk.
Remember,
pedestrians should always be on sidewalks if
available. If
sidewalks are not available, pedestrians are
supposed to be
facing traffic and be easily seen with light
or bright colors.
Be especially careful on icy/busy roads!

Determine how you will do each day of the three-week
challenge. For instance, you may want to set up your
schedule so that you run 10 minutes and walk 20
minutes each
day, or run 20 minutes and walk 10
minutes each day. Maybe
you want to mix it up a little,
alternating the days in a
manner like this:
Monday: Run 20
minutes and Walk 10 minutes
Tuesday:
Run 10 minutes and Walk 20 minutes
Wednesday:
Run 20 minutes and Walk 10 minutes
Thursday:
Run 10 minutes and Walk 20 minutes.
Friday:
Run 20 minutes and Walk 10 minutes
Saturday:
Run 10 minutes and Walk 20 minutes
Sunday:
Run 20 minutes and Walk 10 minutes
Try to find a consistent time each day to do your running
and walking. Also, take days off if needed. Don't
over
exert yourself and follow the guidelines at this web
site
for
running and
walking.

Begin on March 8, 2010... always do your best... have fun!
You can also check the
P.A.C.E. Trek Germany web site
for updates during Paul's trek and virtually
travel with him. It will take Paul 21 days to complete his
500-miles through Germany. With that in mind, here's
a sample of what you could achieve:
If
you were to
run 20 minutes per day at a moderate pace and
walk 10 minutes per day for the duration of Paul's 21-day
Germany trek, you could log approximately 52 miles!
If you were to
run 10 minutes per day at a moderate pace and
walk 20
minutes per day for the duration of Paul's 21-day Germany trek,
you
could log approximately 37 miles!
If you do this
"20/10 Challenge", you'll be laying a great fitness
foundation for a regular walking and/or running program!
Take this opportunity and virtually trek along with Paul.
Then, when he reaches the finish line... you keep going!
This can be the start of an improved you! Take the challenge
and pace towards a healthier future.
